Mary Ann de la Garza

Mary Ann de la Garza, lovingly known as "dela" to most of her students and friends, is a highly gifted, dedicated and passionate educator and musician. A motivator, encourager and perfectionist "dela" brings out the best in her students, whether in the classroom or during a performance.
Ms. Dela graduated from Incarnate Word High School, received her bachelor's degree from Incarnate Word College and her master's degree from University of Notre Dame. In the early 1980's she came back to Incarnate Word and began her career as a mathematics teacher and choral director. In her over 30 years of teaching at Incarnate Word she has worn numerous hats, served on countless committees all while teaching thousands of students.
She is known for her exceptional work with the Madrigals and Glee Club. She leads them with energy and enthusiasm. The endless hours that she has given are evident in the awards, honors and invitations that they have received.
Ms. Dela has been recognized not only for her achievements as a choral director, but as a teacher in the classroom and leader in the community. A few of her awards include: Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic Schools - Outstanding Leader in Catholic Education; Wal-Mart - Teacher of the Year; TAPPS Fine Arts - Teacher of the Year; CCVI - Spirit Award; and The University of Notre Dame - Leadership in Education Award.
